It is not about seniority or department - it is all about attitude, and specifically the memories they will create and share with colleagues, friends and family during and after the unplanned remote working period.


We call them the "green guy" and the "red lady".


The Green Guy has an ongoing relationship with his boss that is regular, more direct (ie phone and zoom - more than email and text), and is "deeper" - it includes work related and non work related things. They probably talk live at least twice a week 1 on 1, They have trust, mutual respect and are comfortable talking about difficult issues - both work and personal related.


The Red Lady is also, like the Green Guy a smart and valued employee, however the relationship with her boss is different. It is much more irregular, focused only on work and is much more text and email based, or zoom calls with the team. 


The "excuse" to justify the lack of more intimate connection between the boss and the "red lady" could include "she's really a self starter and doesn't need hand holding" or "she is on all the zoom calls and her work is being done well".


True enagegment - particularly in unexpected remote working is more than just "getting the work done".
